So I have this very conservative former coworker friend who, despite our considerably differing political stances, I think quite highly of. I’ve known him since 1994.
Today on Facebook, he posted a link to a web site on which donations are being sought from people to help people pay for the huge medical bills of someone he knows who was seriously injured in an automobile accident.
The donation recipient’s hardships notwithstanding, I find it excruciatingly hypocritical that my friend is helping to beg for money for someone who is underinsured.
This is the same person who believes that people, not the federal government, should be responsible for insuring themselves. This is a person who would have been cheering with the Republican debate crowd that cheered when a Republican candidate was asked if an uninsured person should be allowed to die.
In the end, the Teabagger philosophy winds up costing taxpayers either way. I wonder if the injured guy or his family are having second thoughts about President Obama's healthcare initiatives.
