Over the last couple of months, the Right Wing Information War
Machine has been circulating false information
lies claiming the Obama Administration wants to revoke the early voting rights
of military personnel.
The fact of the matter is that the lawsuit (filed by the Obama administration, the Democratic National Committee, and the Ohio Democratic Party) does NOT seek to restrict military voting. Specifically, it seeks to restore the amount of early voting time in-state residents had prior to being taken away by a 2011 GOP-controlled Ohio Legislature (House Bill 194). Don’t believe me? Read the lawsuit for yourself.
Here are the opening two sentences of the lawsuit:
“Plaintiffs bring
this lawsuit to restore in-person early voting for all Ohioans during the three
days prior to Election Day – a right exercised by an estimated 93,000 Ohioans
in the last presidential election. Ohio election law, as currently enacted by the
State of Ohio and administered by Defendant Ohio Secretary of State,
arbitrarily eliminates early voting during the three days prior to Election Day
for most Ohio voters, a right previously available to all Ohio voters.”
"As a retired Army officer, I am appalled at the Obama
campaign's actions to bring a lawsuit against the State of Ohio for the early
voting privileges it extends to our men and women serving in uniform. To have
the Commander in Chief make our United States servicemen and women the target
of a political attack to benefit his reelection actions is reprehensible.”
Mr. West: Your misrepresentation of fact is reprehensible, as is the dishonor you bring to the uniform you once wore.
While Mr. West certainly isn’t the only politician who has lied about the facts, he’s one of my favorite Dumbasses, hence his appearance here in the annals of infamy.
