The latest wind emitting from Herr Trump’s blatherhole, is
his promise to “destroy” the Johnson Amendment.
The Johnson Amendment regulates what tax-exempt churches can do in
politics.
The Amendment also applies to other tax-exempt entities,
and says in part that they: “…are
absolutely prohibited from directly or indirectly participating in, or
intervening in, any political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) any
candidate for elective public office,"
Churches should always have been taxed to some degree but If Tangerine in Chief Trump succeeds in abolishing the amendment, he damned well better start taxing them – Immediately. Somehow, I can’t imagine that’ll happen. If he goes that route, we need to barrage our representatives. Don’t be idle; be involved.
